Was that the college football catch of the year? The greatest, most artistic grab in Stanford history?
Maybe that’s all debatable, but there’s no doubt Kodi Whitfield’s mind-blowing one-handed touchdown reception Saturday was the most spectacular in Whitfield family history.
“He can glove just about anything,” said Kodi’s father, Bob Whitfield, the Stanford offensive lineman great, after his son’s 30-yard TD lit up the Cardinal’s eventual 24-10 victory over UCLA.
“But I’ve never seen the backhand glove. He caught the point of that ball with a reverse grip.
“To catch it there and then tuck it back in, I’m proud of that. I can’t do that!”
Nobody is supposed to be able to do that. Who knew even Kodi Whitfield could do that, until he did.
But Whitfield said he had one thought while Kevin Hogan’s pass was up in the air — and heading toward the first or second row, it looked like.
“You’ve got to catch this one — got to catch this one,” Kodi Whitfield recalled thinking.
“It was one of the few targets I had this week, so I knew I’ve got to make every one of them count …
“I lined up out wide to the left, beat the defender one-on-one, didn’t really see the safety and I guess Hogan didn’t either. But he gave me a chance, threw it up there, and I was able to bring it in with one hand.”
As his father noted, Whitfield cupped the ball backhanded — sort of like Julius Erving before a tomahawk dunk — and also had to snatch it down quickly before safety Anthony Jefferson sailed through the area a split-second later.
And why didn’t he use his left hand on the catch?
“It was actually being pinned by the defender,” Whitfield said. “But luckily I think I have big hands.”
It was an incredible moment, on a national stage, against a top-10-ranked opponent, and it also happened when Stanford and UCLA were locked in a massive defensive struggle.
Whitfield’s TD came on second-and-18 (after a big loss) and put Stanford up 10-3, giving the Cardinal a lead it would never surrender.
Stanford needed this game — after last weekend’s loss in Utah — to get back into the Rose Bowl race; Stanford needed that play.
There was Whitfield, a backup receiver, reaching into the sky and pulling down a minor miracle.
How did he do this?
“I would say genetics,” Stanford coach David Shaw said, “but Bob is 6-7, 335 pounds, so I don’t think it came from Dad. It was just a phenomenal play.
“God bless Kodi; every time we’ve given him an opportunity, he’s made a play. And (starters) Devon Cajuste and Ty Montgomery are playing great. But every time we put Kodi in, he makes a great play.”
A large part of what made the catch instantly indelible was happenstance — Whitfield probably wasn’t the No. 1 option on the play, and if the ball was going his way, it probably should’ve been thrown earlier.
But that’s how minor football miracles occur — something goes a little bit offline, and it takes an epic performance to pluck it back.
“Technically, that ball was thrown extremely late,” Shaw said with a smile.
As both Whitfields related, it was also a major moment for Kodi because before this game, he had only nine receptions this season, with little major impact.
On Saturday: two catches, one with momentous impact.
“That’s helluva way to get off the schneid — no touchdowns all year, and to make a big play at a pivotal time,” Bob Whitfield said. “It changed momentum.
“I think that was an inspiring moment for him because as a receiver, they want the damn ball all the time …
“I think that last time, he was like, ‘This is my opportunity. Go get it.’ I’m proud of that kid.”
Of course, when I asked Kodi what he figured his dad would say to him after the game, he laughed and said he was sure it’d be about blocking.
A few minutes later, Bob Whitfield proved his son correct.
“I get (to) all the bad stuff first — ‘what happened on that run play when that little corner knifed in?’ ” Bob Whitfield said, chuckling. —‰’How come you didn’t dig?’ We go through that first.
“And then we get to, ‘Dang, great glove!’ “
The pressing Whitfield question: Did Bob ever get a chance to showcase his hands by catching a pass in his college or pro career?
Sadly, the answer is no … “but he recovered a couple of fumbles,” Kodi helpfully added.
Now the Whitfield family has quite a highlight. An all-time reception, at a huge moment, and a play that will live on in “SportsCenter” history for a long, long time.
“I’m sure my parents will have a copy for me,” Kodi Whitfield said.
He will see it for the rest of his career, and his life.
All Whitfield wants is to keep catching balls, keep getting chances, and if you keep throwing his way — or anywhere near him — he probably will come down with it.

Nene Leakes slammed so-called close friend, bridesmaid and reality show star wanna-be Marlo Hampton as an over-the-top diva who is not even a star and who was never asked to be a full-time member of the “Real Housewives of Atlanta.” According to the story written by Terry Shropshire “Friend of the site” and Rollingout.com editor at large.
“After working with Marlo on the show (“I Dream of Nene”), I could see why she was not a housewife, because she’s super difficult,” NeNe said. “She’s super extra.”
Now, Hampton claps back at Leakes, saying that producers love her prickly personality or else she never would have been casted in both shows to begin with. Furthermore, Hampton clarifies, she has never become a full-time housewife is not because of her attitude, but because she is not married.
“I have no husband, so I can’t even be a full-time housewife,” Marlo says.
But she does say that it’s her unique personality that allows her to show up on the Bravo screen.
“There’s nothing normal about me — I love being extra and I own it,” she says in an interview with radaronline.com. “That’s part of Marlo. Me being normal, you wouldn’t see me every week being on the show and I’m sure she wouldn’t have asked me to be in her wedding if I wasn’t extra.”
Hampton continues, “Everyone loves my personality. The producers love me. Which producer wouldn’t love me? It would be a fool not to, right?”
Hampton considers herself a prominent member of both shows and compares herself to Marysol Patton on the “The Real Housewives of Miami” and Kim Depaola on “The Real Housewives of New Jersey.”
“It just would be friend of the housewives, [but] I always just say a cast member because I’m on it,” Marlo explains. “I’m being called to tape… so I would definitely say I’m a cast member with Bravo.”
Marlo even confirms that she will be appearing in the upcoming Season 6 of RHOA.
“I’m taping a couple of scenes here and there,” she says. “I don’t know if I’m supposed to tell you that, but yeah.”
Even if Hampton ever got married, she doubts she would option to become a full-time cast member on RHOA.
“It depends on what my husband would want,” she says. “That would definitely have to be 50-50 because I feel some men would not [like that]. You know I want to marry a successful man, so hopefully [he would] tell me it’s not for me.”
Besides, Hampton embraces her uniqueness from the other housewives.
“I’m different and I’m okay being different,” she admits. “I’m on my own little planet and I’m fine on it.”

Kris and Bruce Jenner have confirmed they separated a year ago, after 22 years together.
In an interview with US magazine hitting newsstands Friday, Kris Jenner says their scenes together on the show have been genuine and there’s no animosity between them. She says they’re committed to their family.
Her former Olympic champion husband says they’ll always love and respect each other.
News of the split was first reported by E! News.
They say no divorce papers have been filed and that Bruce will continue to appear on the family’s reality show.
The admission explains why on recent episodes, Bruce Jenner moved out to his own beach house, saying he needed more space.
The couple’s teenage daughters, Kendall and Kylie, were also filmed joining him for the summer, because their house with mom Kris was too crowded after half-sister Kim Kardashian moved in with Kanye West and their new daughter.
Since Bruce Jenner moved out, he’s still featured on the series often. Kris Jenner has taped scenes at his new home, as have the other Kardashian kids.
Fifty-seven-year-old Kris Jenner and 63-year-old Bruce Jenner married in April 1991, less than a year after getting fixed up on a blind date.
At the time, Bruce had already been married twice before and had four kids.
Kris Jenner was newly divorced from Robert Kardashian, a prominent attorney who represented O.J. Simpson in the murder trial of Nicole Brown and Ronald Goldman. She already had four kids, Kim, Khloe —wife of NBA star Lamar Odom— Kourtney Kardashian and Rob Kardashian.
Bruce Jenner has served as a father figure to Kris Jenner’s children, especially since the death of Robert Kardashian in 2003 of cancer.

Honey I didn’t have to have any Martini’s watching the ReUnion show because it kept my attention every second SOBER! The girls were all dressed and face beat to perfection. I loved Kandi’s look any ponytail. Porsha denies ever being malicious and claims that Kenya has been jealous of her since they first met, reasoning that Kenya is envious of her youth and marriage to Kordell. Oh What a Tangled Web We WEAVE! When first we practice to deceive. But who was really doing the deceiving here? Now that Porsha has been hanging with her RHOA co-stars, she’s thinking about her future and has solicited the advice of the other ladies.
“She got around all those strong women on the show like NeNe [Leakes] and Phaedra [Parks] and they gave her advice on her marriage and I think she took what they told her – and got on her high horse and took that to Kordell – but clearly he wasn’t having it. Porsha is a cool girl, don’t get me wrong, but she shouldn’t have let these other rich girls get in her ear about her marriage. If she didn’t, she’d still have a man,” the source says.
Porsha Is Blindsided By Kordell’s Decision To File For Divorce
Porsha said she was completely blindsided by Kordell filing divorce papers in Atlanta on Mar. 22. On March 26, Porsha’s rep released this statement below to Us Weekly:
“Mrs. Stewart is disappointed about her husband’s recent filing for divorce. Mrs. Stewart had held off on filing for a divorce herself and remained committed to the marriage because Mr. Stewart promised to work on the marriage with her. Instead, he misled her and she found out about the filing in the media. Mrs. Stewart hopes to resolve these personal issues privately with the support of her family, friends and strong faith.”
