Grey Goose Cherry Noir Congratulates the Rickey Smiley TV One Sitcom on Breaking Records for TV Opening Night
Last Monday Night’s Event was amazing and more than likely the publicity and buzz the party created hopefully led to the 900,000 viewers that tuned in last Monday night to make the Rickey SMiley Debut one of the highest rated viewings in the history of scripted TV shows to air on their network. Let’s flash back at last monday night. And special thanks to all the guests who shared with our host”Alexis Jones” how they like their grey goose cocktails.
According to Rodney Ho at the Atlanta Journal Constitution
Atlanta-based “The Rickey Smiley Show” sitcom drew about 900,000 viewers for its debut appearance on TV One Tuesday night over its first two episodes.
That isn’t all that impressive compared to shows like VH1’s “Love & Hop: Atlanta” or TLC’s “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.” But for TV One, these are big numbers, the biggest debut in the history of the network.
Atlanta’s Roger Bobb, who produced the show and used to work with Tyler Perry, said oin an interview today that TV One has never gotten this type of market share before. “They’re extremely happy, as am I,” Bobb said.
He notes that these numbers aren’t as large as Perry’s sitcoms on TBS, but TBS is in nearly twice as many households. (TV One is seen in 57 million households vs. 100 million for TBS.)
Bobb also said Smiley’s acting improves steadily from episodes one to 10.
He is hopeful for a second season pickup but TV One has to see if the initial audience sticks around the next few weeks before it makes that commitment.
If Smiley gets a second season, it might be 13 or 26 episodes, not 90 like Perry wrangled from TBS and FX received from “Anger Management.”

R&B stars Faith Evans, Nicci Gilbert, Keke Wyatt, Syleena Johnson, and Monifah Carter are joining the reality show circuit. “R&B Divas” will premiere on cable network TV One on Aug. 20 (10 p.m. EST).
The eight-episode, one-hour series chronicles the ladies’ long-running friendship as well as their professional lives and personal challenges. Spurred by Evans, the quintet comes together to produce a charity album inspired by Whitney Houston. Proceeds from the album will benefit the Whitney E. Houston Academy of Creative and Performing Arts in East Orange, New Jersey. As this project unfolds, so does a candid look at other career and personal issues affecting the divas, including motherhood, divorce, alcohol and physical abuse as well as entrepreneurial pursuits.

More about the show
On the latter front, Gilbert recently unveiled her Curvato fashion line during Full Figured Fashion Week in New York City. And Evans is a partner in Glass Hair Products, which launched in New York City on June 14.
“These ladies have known each other in the industry for quite a while,” says TV One executive VP of original programming and production Toni Judkins. “We aren’t creating relationships for the sake of a television show, so their actions, relationships and emotions are authentic and true to life-and it makes for a powerful narrative.”
Originally titled “Ladies of R&B,” TV One’s “R&B Divas” is filmed primarily in Atlanta, with additional shooting in Washington, D.C., New York and New Orleans. The series is produced for TV One by Thinkfactory Media. Executive producers are Adam Reed, Adam Freeman, and Leslie Greif; co-executive producers are Phil Thornton, Paul Coy Allen, Faith Evans and Nicci Gilbert. Executive in charge of production for TV One is Jubba Seyyid.
